hospital move

We moved at work today. Whew. All went very smoothly. It is a lot of work to move parts of a hospital,, I can tell you that.

The new place is great, lovely and bright and pleasant. It's quite something, as I went back into the old unit, and compared-it was like one of those weird movies or books, where someone stumbles into an area where it looks like people just vanished or something. Lindsay from work says there is a good zombie movie about that.

I work evenings all week, which is OK, I think actually the staff will be fine, but perhaps having someone there who is very familiar with the unit will help them to recognize that they are fine. Though I also suspect people would prefer not to necessarily have me there after hours...

I also don't want people to muck it up-I saw some marks and felt like when someone puts a mark on freshly painted walls at home.

I have been working extra hours for this-and feel pretty tired, though that is also because we went for celebratory drinks afterwards, and I had to get Richard to come drive me home :)

Update from Kelowna

Mom and I have been hanging out for about 3 weeks now, and we are still doing well.  On Monday Mom and the Wensinks went to pick out the tree from last Mothers Day.  It is a beautiful Japanese Maple, very red looking and makes a nice contrast to the green.  It has not been planted yet, I think Saturday is the day.  While doing digging in the garden area I managed to do something to my lower back, it hurt quite a bit but now I just have a few twinges.

Mom and I are in a routine now, during the day we do a bit of work and then at night we are glued to the TV, watching hockey. Mom makes supper and I do the clean up.  Now that LA has won the western division, there won't be hockey every night.

On Sunday night the Wensinks and I went to see The Avengers in 3D.  It is pure escapism and very enjoyable.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day seems to get better every year. I skipped church today and slept in, then sat in the yard drinking coffee till Geoff got home. The weather has been beautiful ths weekend, have basically been outside all the time. Tim, Courtney and Kane came over for a barbecue. We need to remember to eat earlier when Kane comes for supper. His bedtime is at 7:30 and he was getting pretty tired. Grace had to work but she left a delicious cheesecake for us. Anne, Will and Sam all called. Yes, Sam. Had a long chat with each one. Even Sam. We'll be seeing Anne in a couple of weeks as she is coming out for a wedding at the end of the month. I think Sam is coming for the long weekend, we haven't seen him in Rocky since Christmas. So, a great day. I love my kids.
Also forgot to mention before that Geoff went out to the cabin with Marcel to have a look at what could be done to stabilize it. But Marcel says it really can't be done. So looks like we will have to put up a new one. Or sell it. Feedback?

Happy Mothers Day

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz

I wonder where my energy is?

I feel like the whole term I've been exhausted and always on the verge of sickness. I was home sick on Friday; it feels like I haven't had a complete week this term. I think I better go to the doctor. My friend Annie, whom I roomed with at the leadership camp has strep (doctor misdiagnosed it and they just determined that's why she's felt sick much of term) and I wonder if that's it?

It was beautiful out today. The weather's back and forth makes me a little crazy. I'm trying to ride bike more. I just signed up for an 'introduction to bike maintenance' workshop on the last weekend of the month. I sort of don't care about doing it myself? But this is cheaper than bringing it in and I think that I just need some basics, like, what do you oil and tighten when.

Making potato leek soup with many vegetables from my organic box delivery. Satisfying to use them all.

I just finished a novel by a Swedish author, Ninni Holmkvist, called The Unit. It's about people above 50 who are used for medical experiments and organ donation because they are deemed to not be of use to society. Creepy! Great!

Plants

I have a 4 day weekend! Thank you flex time!
Richard, Mom, and I went to Greenery and bought a lot of plants. I won't tell you what we spent. For car ride home, both Richard and Mom had to hold plants in their lap and on the floor underneath their feet.
I will be planting a lot tomorrow.
Richard has the same cold as Jude and is feeling yucky, so not working today.
We are going to hospital open house-there is a family and friend open house for new tower-I am not sure if Richard will be up to going, but Mom and Judith are game. the move is getting really close- Sun. May 27th, I am going in that day and will be a patient receiver. The move is quite the well oiled machine, a company that specializes in hospital moves is coming in to do it, though we still have to pack and unpack-yuck. I will be spending my next few weeks doing this stuff. Exciting!
It is a lovely day-sunny and 20, supposed to be up to high 20's this weekend. I plan to finish digging up dandelions, cut grass, and plant. And go to Jones St and weed and plant.

Travel in June

Geoff has been talking about going somewhere all winter. Finally he booked a trip - to Chicago. As far as I know, it wasn't even on the list. I think we're going because he found a seat sale, direct flight from Calgary to Chicago. And because Jude recommended it as a destination.
So he booked the flight, but we have been having an awful time finding accommodation. All hotels (except the likes of the Trump Tower) seem to be booked up. However, found a studio apartment rental that looks nice, good location as far as we can tell and quite reasonable. And if it is none of those, we will have a good time anyway.

Grace is now home for the summer although right now is back in Edmonton. She says she likes working at the hospital, gets the usual questions, "Who are your parents?" etc. She came home sick on Sunday with a bad stomachache and felt terrible about leaving work but she could hardly stand up. She was a lot better by Monday morning.

Geoff has not been working since before Easter and is really enjoying being at home. He has been working away at the suite and puttering in the yard. Things are coming along downstairs. When Geoff went to Edmonton to help Sam move he stopped at Ikea and got the bottom cabinets for the kitchen part, and soon will be ready to install them, then can finish the flooring in the kitchen and living room.

Tim has become very domestic. He was rototilling his garden yesterday since Courtenay wants to plant one. Has plans to build a new deck this summer.

Spring used to be my least favourite season, but I love it now. Every day something new is up in the yard, or is starting to bloom. I feel like I am living in The Secret Garden. Our veggies are planted. It is snowing tonight but is supposed to warm up again later in the week.

At Mom's

enjoying the peace and quiet.  I have done some work (mowing the lawn and some digging in the garden). The weather has been OK, seems to be starting out with sunny mornings, then clouding over with some showers later on.  The weekend is looking good, up around 23 and sunny, hurray.  I have seen a lot of blossoms and spring flowers, they look so pretty.

The flight out was good, I was going to take the LRT and bus to the airport, but ended up running late so called a cab instead.  Had a very chatty cab driver, he told me all about all the animal documentaries he had watched.  I thought I would have to take a cab to Mom's, but Richard picked me up, he was on call and so did not need to be physically at work.  It is always so nice to see a familiar face at the airport.

Allison's New Bathroom!

Floor installed today! Just the baseboards to go. And maybe new mirror cabinet, one day.
