It's Lippman, not Lippencott

Well, at least we know she is not in the textbook cartel family.
Am sore from pruning the apricot tree.
Many croci are blooming!
Now i am reading the Diana Chronicles. Which I felt embarrassed getting out of library, like when I'm in the grocery check out and I'm flipping through The Star. Who is the best dressed? What exactly is going on with Britney? How are Ang and Brad doing?
Have picked up tickets for our trip!
And am working like a mad person from now until the time we leave. So I should properly appreciate the trip and time off shouldn't I?
I picked up a partial shift today, work 2, off 2 work 2, off 2, work 4, then off for over 2 weeks!
I see the Conservatives won again in Alberta. For some reason not understandable to my left leaning heart, I sort of like Ed Stelmach?!
However, I know that Stephen Harper is slowly and surely dismantling the country through tax cuts, program cuts, and just you wait, deficit will not be far behind. (Plus, I think his eyes look dead, like he's possessed by, who? Oh, I don't know? Satan!---a referral to the Church Lady from SNL)I believe that G. Bush did the same thing a few years ago and look at their country now. I think it is funny that conservatives run on wanting less government and fiscal prudency, but then always end up in debt.
Comments from those in the family who are less granola eating than me?

I have read Laura Lippman, and liked her. Somehow reading about people in more little known cities appeals to me, instead of everything being set in Chicago or LA or New York. In someways it feels as though they could be writing about a place more like Edmonton, and I can relate better.

I have to say I like Ed too, he just seems a bit more like a regular person, than King Ralph. And in spite of the fact that I would have liked a little more opposition in the leg, not less, I do feel as though it is a bit a thumb (or do I mean pie?)in the face to Ralph, since he was leading the PC's in the last election, and Ed did better than him. Take that!! In my riding the liberal candidate was re-elected.

BTW, how are Brad and Angelina doing?

Steady Eddie. He has never lost an election.
I should point out that it was a Conservative govt here who eliminated not only the deficit but the debt also. So that was a somewhat blanket statement about Conservatives.
I was very surprised by the election results. Not much question that the PCs would win but not by such a landslide. There were lots of Liberal and NDP casualties in Edmonton. Not Redmonton any more, now it's "Ed"monton.
HOw can you not trust an premier with such a nice Ukranian accent?

I am more of a bulgur wheat eater than a granola eater, but it's probably the same thing.

I don't trust him! I guess I trust inasmuch as I think that he's not outrightly lying about anything in particular -- I just don't agree with party direction.

We are debt free on paper, to be sure -- but all that deferred infrastructure funding means we are not. Lies & deception.

I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed. Although I did have the left-moral-satisfaction of voting for NDP in my riding, and at least seeing the Liberal get in.

I was also surprised by the margin of victory. I thought the opposition parties would at least maintain their numbers. Kevin Taft won in my riding.

I think most Albertans were surprized by the margin of majority. That being said in my riding there was a local lady running PC and all the other candidates were parachute (mostly uni students) that didn't know much about the riding. Kinda a no-brainer.

If other parties want to get more seats, they had better start running credible candidates in rural ridings. Our MLA got in by a huge margin and I'm sure it's partly because there wasn't much other choice. Our Liberal candidate was a teacher from Red Deer and the Green candidate also doesn't even live in the riding. Add a couple of right-wing wingnuts and there you have it - Ty Lund. We've never had a chance here to see if people would vote for a different party.

Also, every other jurisdiction has an infrastructure deficit along with their financial deficits. All we have is the infrastructure.

ah, yes -- but they never mention that in their PR...

Mom- how can you just dismiss Fanie Van Heerden like that? Actually, you're right. He is a wingnut. He used to smoke cigarettes he rolled out of newspaper, because he was too cheap to buy rolling paper. And it was nice to see that Bruce Hutton is going ahead with the whole "Alberta Seperatism" thing. Does he still drive the LUFA van?

That reminds me of a guy who drove around town in a '83 Ford with big homemade signs on it that said "Our Courts Suck" He ran for some party one election, can't remember which one, but am pretty sure it was not a mainstream one.

FAnie came in second here so maybe credible more left candidates wouldn't have made a difference.

Isn't Fanie the one that Jovita said did well at the school when they had the candidates forum? Maybe the problem is we need younger voters to make a difference. Not old ones like us!

Yes, that's Fanie. He's also the rugby coach. He's from South Africa.

Without getting too involved in ideological debates, I will say that Stephen Harper has made progress with my number one cause/voting point (the Canadian Forces) which had been sorely neglected since 1993. Funding is not quite at the level I would like, but he has definitely taken steps in the right direction.

that is interesting Sam, why do you have that cause in particular?
